In recent times, despite Team India’s exceptional success, their struggle in the lower order is grabbing attention. In the recent Test series against England, the issue stood out as the lower order collapsed, even when the top order experienced occasional hiccups.

As Team India has been dealing with this issue for a long time, Yograj Singh, Yuvraj Singh’s father, fired shots against it. Citing past examples, he urged the tailenders to evolve into true all-rounders to help solve the problem.

Switching Gears Could Solve India’s Tail Woes

In recent years, Team India has witnessed peaks and valleys in their performance. But the tail woes remained the one unsolved problem in the batting innings. When the top order delivers, all seems well, but on off days, like the third Test at Lord’s, the lower order’s struggle with the bat becomes glaringly obvious. The Team is still struggling to fix this issue.

Reflecting on this, Yuvraj Singh’s father, Yograj Singh, slammed the tag of ‘Tailenders’. Speaking to Insidesports, he urged the team to take inspiration from past eras when bowlers contributed crucial runs with their all-round abilities.

“The problem with the Indian squad, at the moment, is that we are not looking to make the bowlers into all-rounders. Kapil Dev was never given batting in the nets, I was yelling at the top of my voice, ‘Kapil ko batting karao'. At that time, he used to come in at No.11, score 70-80 runs, so no one was looking ahead,” he said.

Bowlers Must Hone Their Batting Skills In The Nets

Adding more to this, Yograj Singh urged the team management to groom the tailenders as fierce all-rounders. He also emphasized that bowlers should spend at least 1–2 hours in the nets honing their batting skills to make a real impact.

“Nowadays, Bumrah and all these bowlers, what you call them tail enders, I don't. You are not looking ahead that they can be groomed into very, very good all-rounders. If you work with them, make them bat in the nets for 1-2 hours daily after the session, I think that could be the best thing that could happen,” he added.

On September 10, Team India is all set to face new challenges as they are set to start their Asia Cup 2025 journey against the UAE. With a fresh squad, captain Suryakumar Yadav aims to lead the team in defending their title.
