The thrills are back in the cricket field as the cricket fans enjoyed the thrilling inaugural clash of the Asia Cup 2025 between Afghanistan and Hong Kong. While Afghan fans celebrated a commanding win, Hong Kong found themselves on the wrong side of an unusual record.

While chasing the total, Hong Kong’s batting order crumbled under pressure. Two run-outs in the innings left them with the unwanted record of most run-out dismissals in T20I history.

Hong Kong Names A Bizarre Dismissal Record

As the Asia Cup returned with another thrilling season, fans enjoyed a thrilling match. Afghanistan’s dominance left Hong Kong struggling, and the chase of 189 quickly turned into a nightmare as the Afghan bowlers tore through their top order. But the worst was yet to unfold.

Hong Kong’s power play failure made the situation more difficult. In the third over, Nizakat Khan was run out by Rashid Khan, and Kalhan Challu also walked away on a run out in the fifth over, scoring only 4 runs in 8 deliveries. Those run-outs landed the side in an unwanted feat.

Since last year, Hong Kong has recorded 34 run outs, which is the highest of all the 103 T20I cricket-playing nations. What makes it worse is that most of these dismissals have come from their top-order and middle-order batters.

Afghan Dominance Outplays Hong Kong

While batting first, Afghanistan faced some initial setbacks but made a fierce comeback later on. As the team was facing early blows, Sediqullah Atal stood tall and scored a crucial half-century. Coming to bat at the number six position, Azmatullah Omarzai played a crucial knock of 53 runs in 21 deliveries. With Atal’s unbeaten 73-run knock, Afghanistan put on a total of 188 runs on the board.

Defending the total, the Afghan bowlers tilted the game with their lethal bowling. Four wickets tumbled in the powerplay, and Gulbadin Naib’s double strike added to the pressure before Fazalhaq Farooqi secured two crucial ones. With that combined effort, Afghanistan registered 94-run victory in their inaugural clash of the Asia Cup.
