The T20 thrills are back as the cricket world is all set to experience another thrilling edition of the Asia Cup. As the tournament kicks off, Sri Lanka made a key change just ahead of starting their journey.

After a short break, Asia’s biggest cricket rivalry is back, as the Asia Cup returns with yet another thrilling season. With the teams ready for the high-voltage battle on the UAE soil, Sri Lanka revised their squad just ahead of stepping into their inaugural clash against the Tigers.

To boost the squad, the Sri Lankan team management made a significant change. Batting all-rounder Janith Liyanage has been added to the squad to strengthen their all-round department, aiming for a successful campaign.

Initially announced as a 16-member squad for the tournament, it has now been increased to 17. While the all-rounder has impressed in the 50-over format, his T20I exposure is limited to just three matches, with his last outing in the shortest format dating back to February 2022 against India.

In the recently ended ODI series against Zimbabwe, the all-rounder showcased his excellence. Despite getting out early in the second match, Liyanage played an unbeaten knock of 70 runs in 47 balls in the first game. His current form can be an asset for the side in the marquee event.

In the tournament, Sri Lanka has been placed in Group B along with Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Hong Kong. Having clinched the Asia Cup title in 2022 when it was played in the T20I format, they will now look to carry that winning legacy forward in this tournament.
