BCCI gets notice from HC [Source: @BCCI/X.com]
The Uttarakhand High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding petitions that have sought a probe into the alleged misuse of government funds by the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU). The matter relates to nearly ₹12 crore in state funds that were reportedly meant for organising cricket tournaments but were allegedly misused.
Audit report highlights questionable spending
According to the petitioners, the charges are based on the CAU’s own audit report prepared by an external chartered accountant for the 2024–25 financial year. The report listed expenses that raised serious questions, including ₹35 lakh claimed under the head “expenditure on bananas for players.”
The audit further revealed that around ₹6.4 crore was spent on event management, while a massive ₹26.3 crore was shown as tournament and trial expenses. This marked an increase from ₹22.3 crore spent under the same head during the previous financial year where BCCI records massive profit this year.
The petitions, filed by Dehradun resident Sanjay Rawat and others, alleged that the CAU had siphoned off funds in the name of food, event, and tournament expenses. They claimed that despite huge spending reflected in the accounts, the facilities promised to state-level cricketers were never delivered. Basic infrastructure, training resources, and player amenities reportedly remained unavailable.
High Court seeks response from BCCI
A single bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari heard the matter and took cognisance of the allegations. The court issued a notice to the BCCI, asking it to respond to the charges made against the state cricket body. The next hearing on the case has been scheduled for Friday.
The case has put the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand under sharp scrutiny, raising wider concerns about transparency and accountability in the management of cricket funds at the state level.
