Shubman Gill punched out 76 runs from just 38 balls against SRH in match number 51 of the IPL 2025 season. Opening the innings, the Gujarat Titans skipper belted 10 boundaries and two huge sixes in the process at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium to notch up his fifth fifty-plus score in IPL this year.

Gill’s batting masterclass even prompted former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja to make a huge claim about the 25-year-old, comparing him even with RCB icon and Team India legend Virat Kohli.

Ajay Jadeja hails Shubman Gill

Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja expressed his admirations for “consistent” Shubman Gill after the latter whacked his fifth half-century of the IPL 2025 season. The prominent commentator even compared Gill with legendary Indian batter Virat Kohli for managing to score quick runs without taking “unnecessary risks”.

While speaking on JioHotstar, Ajay Jadeja said:

“It’s business as usual with Shubman Gill because this man is just so consistent. We have a Virat Kohli in our country, but Gill is no less. If you look at the consistency with which he scores—it’s similar in style. They don’t take unnecessary risks; they wait for the bowler to make a mistake. Unless absolutely required, you rarely see them throw their wicket away. Skill-wise, Gill is outstanding. He peppered the offside beautifully today with those cover drives.”

Both Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli are also in contention of winning the coveted ‘Orange Cap’ of the IPL 2025 season. Gill and Kohli have tallied 465 and 443 runs respectively so far to find themselves among the top five leading run-scorers.

Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans team is ranked second on the IPL 2025 points table with seven wins and just three defeats from 10 matches. They will now face Mumbai Indians in match 56 at the Wankhede Stadium on May 6.
