Former Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shehzad did not hold back after Pakistan’s humiliating loss to New Zealand in the Tri-Nation Series final in Karachi on Saturday. The Men in Green were handed a 5-wicket drubbing which left fans and experts scratching their heads just days before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Ahmed Shehzad Tears Into Mohammad Rizwan After Tri-Series Final Loss

Shehzad, known for speaking his mind went all out on his YouTube channel, calling the team’s decisions "brainless" and slamming the management for making childish mistakes.

When the stakes were high, Pakistan crumbled under pressure and Shehzad was quick to call out the flaws. His harsh words were aimed straight at captain Mohammad Rizwan who he accused of poor leadership and questionable tactics.

In a rant that left no stone unturned, Shehzad blasted Pakistan for opting to bat first—a decision he called mind-boggling.

He pointed out how the pitch had proven to be more batting-friendly under lights with the ball coming onto the bat nicely for chasing teams. Despite knowing that, Rizwan and co. still chose to bat first, which Shehzad described as a clueless move.

“It was a mind-boggling decision (to bat first) because we had seen in the previous match that the pitch becomes better to bat on in the night, the ball doesn’t grip on the surface for the spinners. Still, the Pakistan team decided to bat first. Brainless decision, they had no clue,” Shehzad said in frustration.

'Pakistan’s Bubble Has Burst': Shehzad

Ahmed Shehzad didn’t stop at just criticizing the decision-making. He went on to say that Pakistan’s bubble had burst before the Champions Trophy and that the team’s current strategy would only work if the opposition was below par or missing key players.

"In a final, you are making childish decisions…you are making so many mistakes in matches. You get a chance to win only when the opposition performs below par or don’t have their main players playing," he remarked, adding that the team management needs to play to their strengths instead of making random calls.

Babar Azam Fails As Pakistan Gets Humiliated At Home

It wasn’t just the decisions that came under fire. Pakistan’s batting unit flopped big time. Babar Azam failed yet again, and the team folded for just 242 runs. In response, New Zealand made light work of the chase, with Tom Latham and Daryl Mitchell smashing half-centuries to seal the win with 4.4 overs to spare.

With the Champions Trophy 2025 looming large, Mohammad Rizwan and his men have plenty of soul-searching to do. If they continue to make "brainless" decisions and rely on opposition mistakes to win games, the road ahead could be rough.
