After India's shambolic loss against South Africa at Guwahati, India's head coach Gautam Gambhir was out and about expressing his thoughts on the team's performance and the blame game that is around the internet.

With critics and fans disliking Gambhir's role with the team, the ex-IND cricketer also didn't forget to hit back with stingy comments on trollers.

Gambhir makes sharp statements after loss

Speaking after the match, in the press conference, Gambhir defended the loss by his previous achievements with the team while focusing on giving the young learners time for transition.

“I’m the same guy under whom India did well in England, won the Champions Trophy, and won the Asia Cup. I’ve said it in the past as well that I hate the word "transition," and I’m not here to give excuses, but this is exactly what transition is. The young players are learning on the job. You've to give them time,” Gambhir said in the press conference, as per Revsportz.

India, under captain Shubman Gill, and many young faces with only KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant among the senior pros, suffered a heavy series defeat against the Proteas while succumbing to a whitewash.

Gambhir opens up on 'whom to blame' for the loss

Adding to the 'unacceptable' performance, Gambhir shared his two cents on the expectation from Indian players as well as the collapse that shattered India's hopes.

"The way we played, if you follow this Test series. At one point we were 95/1 and 120 for 6 or 7. This kind of performance is not acceptable. The reality is we need to improve in Test cricket, whether it is mentally, technically, or absorbing pressure. Most importantly, not for the gallery," Gambhir added.

However, Gambhir was collective in statement when asked about whom to blame for the loss. Taking a unified approach, the head coach adopted a diplomatic stance while keeping himself at the forefront.

"We win together, we lose together. Not going to point out anyone in particular. The blame lies at the feet of everyone, starting with me. Start prioritizing Test cricket. If we want Test cricket to flourish in India, we have to collectively do it. "So more than the accountability, it's about the care," Gambhir added.

With this defeat, India slips down the ranks in the WTC 2025-27 standings. Nevertheless, the boys would like to move on from the hardships and take care of the rest of the series. The white-ball tour starts on November 30, as December 9 marks the beginning of the T20I tour.
