Nitish Reddy had a terrible outing in the second Test against South Africa at Guwahati. He scored just 10 runs in two innings and barely bowled as fans lashed out at his selection.

India had to endure a humiliating 408-run defeat in the second Test, leading to an even more embarrassing result of a 0-2 series loss.

Critics attacked the batting unit for collapses in both innings (201 & 140), and some even questioned the role of all-rounders, especially Nitish Reddy.

Fans question Nitish Reddy’s merit in Tests after repeated failures

In the second Test against South Africa, Nitish Reddy was backed ahead of Axar Patel as an all-rounder, a move that made little sense, especially on a turning pitch.

Reddy, meanwhile, didn’t help his case, as he scored just 10 runs in the first inning at no. 7 and was dismissed on a duck while trying to reverse sweep recklessly in the second inning.

Even with the ball, Reddy bowled 10 overs combined in both innings and had no role to play as a genuine all-rounder.

Not only that, but since that hundred against Australia in the MCG Test, Nitish Reddy has scored 1, 0, 4, 1, 1, 30, 13, 43, 10, and 0. This rounds up to 103 runs in 10 innings at an awful average of 10.3.

Needless to say, fans were unimpressed with Reddy. Many questioned his role in home Tests, where he is underutilised as pitches don't favour fast bowlers more.

A lot of people also want Nitish Reddy to head back to domestic cricket and get accustomed to batting on Indian pitches. His first class average, interestingly, stands at just 23.69.

"Nitish Kumar Reddy the fraud got out while playing a reverse shot for a huge huge "DUCK". Imagine playing REVERSE SWEEP when he was supposed to grind whole day & save this game. He should never be selected in Indian test team ever again for this shot alone!! 24 FC avg for a reason! Keep ignoring domestic heroes!!" - @Rajiv1841

"Nitish Reddy is an all rounder. Equally terrible in batting, bowling and fielding." - @jitengajaria

"Nitish Reddy all-rounder hai? Bowling mein Ranji level bhi nahi, batting mein tailender vibe.. phir bhi “all-rounder” tag lagake pel rahe ho. Wah selection committee, kya vision hai 🔥🤡 " - @Rajiv_siait

"Oh nitish the all rounder. Can't take wicktes... Can't defend too (forget Abt scoring). Promising talent which cheats everytime. Disappointing" - @shravya1417

"Meet Mr Nitish Kumar Reddy, the Greatest Find of Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar From IPL alongside Dhruv Jurel, Sai Sudarshan. Avg 21 with the bat in domestic, can't bowl over 130. Playing on Ajit Agarkar Quota of All Rounder. Will Agarkar show some spine to ans these Qns #INDvSA" - @Brutu24

Hence, questions over his selection are bound to rise. For Nitish Reddy, his Test career needs saving. He is still 22 and has a whole career lying ahead of him, only if he is wise enough to improve and learn from his mistakes.
