An old video of India’s former captain Virat Kohli has recently gone viral as the batsman criticised the way the team’s key team member Rohit Sharma’s injury was being handled. While expressing his concern, Kohli openly rebuked the authorities for the lack of clarity on Sharma’s injury.

When Kohli expressed concern over lack of clarity in Rohit's injury status

It was the end of 2020, ahead of India’s tour of Australia and the recently concluded second leg of the Indian Premier League 2020. The season winner Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma had pulled a hamstring injury during the IPL 2020. However, Sharma went on to play the remaining leg of the tournament which was resumed in Dubai due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The BCCI had previously ruled out Rohit from the squad for the Test series of India’s tour of Australia on 26th October 2020. However, Rohit Sharma continuing as the captain of Mumbai Indians for IPL 2020 sparked a lot of controversies.

As per the then Indian Skipper, Virat Kohli, the authorities had informed him regarding the injury of Rohit Sharma while giving a brief list of pros and cons of his injury ahead of the series. The aggressive batsman soon figured out the unavailability of Sharma for the series without any official confirmation.

While talking about the unideal waiting time and lack of clarity on Sharma’s participation in the Test series, Virat Kohli said,

“Before the selection meeting, we got an email that he was unavailable and that he had picked up an injury during the IPL. It said that the pros and cons of the injury were explained to him, and he understood, and he was unavailable.”

Further, while highlighting the lack of information regarding Rohit Sharma’s status of travelling to Australia with the team, Virat Kohli added,

“After that (the selection meeting), he played in the IPL, and we all thought he would be on that flight to Australia, and we had no information on why he was not travelling with us. There has been no information, and there has been a lack of clarity. We have been playing the waiting game.”

After Virat Kohli’s video broke on the Internet, the BCCI released a late-night statement regarding Rohit Sharma returning to India from Dubai to give aid to his ailing father.
