Australian wicketkeeper-batter Beth Mooney has come up with a witty response to the 2025 Women's World Cup semifinal joke of Indian middle-order batter Jemimah Rodrigues. During the second semifinal of the 2025 World Cup last month, Rodrigues punched out a majestic 127* to help India pull off a world record chase of 339 runs, thus knocking out the defending champions and hitherto unbeaten Australia out of the competition.
Yesterday in Brisbane, i.e., on day 1 of the ongoing Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), Jemimah Rodrigues joked about being worried that the Australian authorities would not let her enter the country to play for Brisbane Heat because of her semifinal knock.
Beth Mooney “thanks immigration” after Australia’s semifinal loss
Australian middle-order batter Beth Mooney, who was at the receiving end of Jemimah Rodrigues' run-chase masterclass in the semifinal of the 2025 ICC Women's World Cup a couple of weeks ago, has responded to Jemimah Rodrigues’ hilarious immigration joke in the WBBL 2025 season.
While turning up for Perth Scorchers at the WACA later on the same day, Beth Mooney was asked by the on-air commentators about what she thought about Rodrigues' World Cup remark. Addressing Jemimah Rodrigues’ "worries", the Australian heavyweight responded that actually she herself was worried if the Australian immigration would let the Australian team back into the country after losing to India in the semifinal. She said:
“We heard Jemi say earlier that she was worried they weren’t going to let her in the country because they beat us, but I actually thought they weren’t going to let us back in for losing. Thankfully, immigration let me in.”

The WBBL 2025 season kicked off on November 9 in Brisbane. Earlier this month, Jemimah Rodrigues-starrer Team India won the 2025 ICC Women's World Cup by defeating South Africa in the final.
