Fresh off leading India to a historic Women’s World Cup triumph, Harmanpreet Kaur is set to be rewarded for her heroics. However, instead of getting a promotion as SP in the Punjab police, she'll get a cash reward.

The Punjab government has reportedly decided to reward the three state cricketers, Harmanpreet Kaur, Harleen Deol, and Amanjot Kaur, who were part of the title-winning team, with a cash prize of ₹1.5 crore each.

In addition, both Harleen and Amanjot are likely to receive government job offers in recognition of their contribution to India’s maiden ODI World Cup win.

Harmanpreet Kaur to wait for SP promotion

According to Tribune India, despite leading the team to glory, India Women captain Harmanpreet Kaur will not receive an immediate promotion in the Punjab Police.

Currently serving as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), she will have to wait for the mandatory years of service before becoming eligible for a promotion to Superintendent of Police (SP).

Reports say that while the state is exploring options for a special honour, a promotion right now isn’t possible under service rules. Interestingly, hockey star Manpreet Singh, also a DSP, has been waiting for his promotion to SP since 2021, despite prior announcements.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is expected to felicitate the three players in a grand ceremony once Harmanpreet returns to Punjab.

According to reports, all arrangements for the event have been completed, and the official announcement will be made soon.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s controversial career off the field

Interestingly, the police career of Harmanpreet Kaur has seen its share of ups and downs. Back in 2018, she was demoted from DSP to constable after controversy erupted over her graduation degree from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, which wasn’t UGC-recognised at the time.

In 2024, she was reinstated as DSP after completing her degree via distance education from Lovely Professional University.

Despite these hurdles, Harmanpreet Kaur is still one of India’s most decorated cricketers and an icon of women’s sport in our nation.

Under her leadership, India won against South Africa in the final of the 2025 World Cup at DY Patil Stadium and gave the country its first-ever Women's World Cup title, a moment to be proud of for the entire nation.
