On November 10, 2020, Rohit Sharma created history in golden letters by leading Mumbai Indians to their fifth IPL title, the first captain ever to do so.When Rohit took charge of the Mumbai Indians in 2013, few imagined the level of dominance that was about to unfold. Seven years later, he had built an empire, one that not only won titles but defined an era of IPL greatness.

When Rohit Sharma led MI to the fifth IPL title

After winning four titles in 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019, Rohit Sharma led MI to yet another IPL final in 2020. That year, the finale was held in the bio-secure bubble of the UAE. 

The world was battling a pandemic, and yet, cricket brought smiles to millions. Facing the Delhi Capitals, Rohit led from the front, scoring a fluent 68 off 51 balls in a 157-run chase.

His partnership with Ishan Kishan (33 off 19) guided Mumbai to a 5-wicket victory with eight balls to spare.

It wasn’t just another win. It was a statement. With that, Rohit Sharma surpassed all captains, including MS Dhoni, to become the first ever to lift the IPL trophy five times.

What makes Rohit’s leadership remarkable is his ability to stay composed under pressure. 

Whether it’s backing young players like Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav, or managing match situations with finesse, Rohit Sharma showed the perfect blend of strategy and intuition.
