Rahul Dravid's tenure as India's head coach is about to end with the conclusion of the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2024. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already started to accept application for Dravid's job, but there is a buzz around in the fratnerity around split coaching in Indian cricket.

Top teams like England, South Africa, Pakistan and West Indies have two different coaches for their white and red ball teams. However, India have never endorsed the theory of split coaching.

Asked about them to former England spinner, Graeme Swann stated that India does not require two different coaches for three different formats, and that has to do with the Indian Premier League (IPL).

"For a nation like India, because of the IPL and the fact the players don't play other leagues, people are based in India whole year round. You don't need split (separate) coaches," Graeme Swann told PTI.

The veteran spinner, who played a massive part when England beat India in Test series back in 2012-13, cited India have a strong core of players that plays all three formats, which is why they do not need split coaches.

"In England, we have three teams that go all around the world cause our summer is in a different time, that's one of the main reasons that split coaches in England. You don't need it in India," the former English spinner added.

"A good coach is a good coach, he's the right man for all three forms so be it. If the guy is specialist in white ball cricket and he's available then you can use him," Swann added.

As set by BCCI, the deadline to apply for the head coach's job is May 27, 2024 - the day after IPL 2024's final. It is understood that Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) mentor Gautam Gambhir and current NCA head VVS Laxman are the front-runner to be India's next head coach.
