Rajasthan Royals captain, Sanju Samson etched his name alongside the legendary Shane Warne in the franchise’s history books, as he captained his team to a decisive victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2024 Eliminator on Wednesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

With this win, Sanju Samson's tally as skipper reached an impressive 31 victories, matching the record set by the spin wizard Warne, who led the team to its inaugural IPL title back in 2008.

The significance of this achievement is magnified when considering the stalwarts who have previously captained the Royals—figures such as Rahul Dravid (18 wins), Shane Watson (8) wins, Ajinkya Rahane (9 wins), and Steve Smith (15 wins).

Each of these leaders left a distinct mark on the franchise, but it was Shane Warne’s magnetic leadership in the inaugural season that set a high benchmark. Now, Samson, who took the reins of leadership from Smith in 2021, is proving himself a worthy successor.

Coming to the game, the clash between the two sides was a spectacle. Rajasthan Royals, who started the season with a bang but hit a rough patch with four consecutive losses, seemed revitalized during their outing vs RCB.

Rajasthan's bowling unit, led by Ravichandran Ashwin and Avesh Khan, who claimed two and three wickets respectively, was instrumental in keeping RCB to a manageable 172/8.

The chase, though filled with tense moments, saw the Royals' batters stepping up to the plate, reaching the target with an over to spare.

Now, with their eyes set on a showdown with Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2 at Chepauk on May 24, Samson and his men are just a stone's throw away from the final as they look to win the title that they last won in 2008.
