Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh just cannot seem to hide his admiration for Shubman Gill, lauding the young skipper’s remarkable transformation in Test cricket after taking on the captaincy. After Gill led the Indian team to a fighting drawn series in England, bagged the ‘Player of the Series’ award and the ICC Player of the Month award while being at it, Yuvraj said that the 25-year-old has now silenced all his doubters and naysayers about his overseas record with sheer class and consistency.

The legendary Indian all-rounder also praised the current Indian team for putting up a collective performance to level a Test series in England.

Shubman Gill Has Thrived With Captaincy, Believes Yuvraj

While speaking to ICC Digital on the sidelines of the ’50 Days To Go’ Women’s World Cup 2025 event in Mumbai, Yuvraj Singh praised his protégé and newly-appointed Indian Test captain Shubman Gill for scoring four hundreds in England as skipper. He said:

“There were a lot of question marks over his overseas record. The guy became the captain and scored four Test hundreds. It's just unbelievable that when you're given responsibility, how you take it.”

Yuvraj Singh also praised the entire Team India, and described the drawn series in England as a virtual win for the team. He added:

“So, very proud of them. I certainly feel it's a win for us, although it's a drawn series, because it's a young team. And it's not easy to go and play well in England and prove yourself.”

Under the leadership of Shubman Gill and in the absence of recently-retired Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Team India won the second Test at Birmingham by 336 runs and the fifth Test in London by six runs to level the five-match series 2-2.

Gill himself plundered 754 runs in the series with four hundreds, which included his career-best score of 269.
