Australian batter Travis Head is one of the best Indian Premier League (IPL) batters of the modern era, having made a name for himself with the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The left-handed batter reinvented himself after a barren run for his nation, and since 2021, he has been an outstanding batter across formats.

Ahead of the 2024 season, Sunrisers Hyderabad made a strategic move and bought his services, and it turned out to be a masterstroke for the franchise. However, little do people know that Travis Head was never a successful IPL player, and before the 2024 season, it was in 2017 when he last slammed an IPL fifty.

7 years between two fifties for Head

It was the 2017 IPL season, and Head represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He was a relatively unknown commodity back then, but the batter showed glimpses of his brilliance with a brilliant 75* off 47 balls at the Chinnaswamy Stadium against Kolkata Knight Riders. That was his maiden IPL fifty, and the next one came 7 years later.

Fast forward to the 2024 edition, and Head was at the peak of his powers, and almost instantly, he lit up the stage. In the opening match against the Mumbai Indians, Head showed his class and smacked 62 off 24 balls, with a strike rate of 258.33.

This fifty of his came after a staggering 2,516 days. He continued to light up the IPL, and SRH got their money back. Interestingly, Head's gap between the two fifties is not the longest in IPL. He sits at the third place, and the first position is occupied by Krunal Pandya, who smacked an IPL fifty after 3,269 days.

Playing for RCB, he scored 73 unbeaten runs and helped his team to a famous win over Delhi Capitals.
