In the upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia, which kicks off tomorrow in Visakhapatnam, interim India captain Suryakumar Yadav is urging his team to adopt a fearless approach.

With several regular players rested after a challenging 2023 World Cup, this series provides an opportunity for the non-regulars to showcase their skills and make a strong case for themselves.

This series marks Suryakumar Yadav's debut as the captain of the T20I side, with Ruturaj Gaikwad serving as his vice-captain for the first three T20Is before Shreyas Iyer takes the deputy role for the final two T20Is.

The skipper highlighted the importance of these games leading up to the T20 World Cup and encouraged the players to play with fearlessness.

“Keeping the T20 World Cup in mind, the games which we are going to play until then are very important. My message to them is very clear, just be fearless and do whatever it takes to help the team and they have been doing that in the IPL, they have played a lot of domestic cricket as well recently,”  Suryakumar said in the pre-match press conference.

Surya emphasized a simple yet crucial message to his players, urging them to enjoy their time in the middle and stick to their usual game without making any drastic changes. He highlighted the essence of treating the upcoming matches as just another game of cricket.

“So, they are in good form, which I heard from our support staff. I have told them only one thing: ‘Just enjoy your time in the middle, do the same thing, and don’t do anything different’. At the end of the day, it’s just a game of cricket,”  added Suryakumar.

The first T20I is scheduled for Thursday, November 22, at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. Following their World Cup final disappointment, the Indian team, led by stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav, is determined to start the series on a winning note against a formidable Australian side.

Matthew Wade will lead Australia in this series, aiming to build on their dominant performance in the recently-concluded World Cup.

For players like Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravi Bishnoi, who contributed to India's gold medal win in cricket at the Asian Games, this series offers a significant opportunity to showcase their talent and make a strong impact. The players will be eager to make the most of their chances and contribute to India's success in the T20I series.
