Ajinkya Rahane's Dig At Curator Sujan Mukherjee [Source: @KKR_Xtra/X.com]
After KKR’s 4-run loss vs LSG, captain Ajinkya Rahane refused to fuel the controversy around Eden Gardens' pitch. He stated that pitch curator Sujan Mukherjee has gained publicity by blowing the issue out of proportion and he would rather not fuel it further by making any strong comments.
The controversy around Eden Gardens’ pitch began with KKR’s frustration with curator Sujan Mukherjee’s refusal to prepare spin-friendly pitches, particularly in their season opener against RCB.
Mukherjee, however, defended his stance, citing BCCI guidelines that clearly state pitch preparation is solely under the purview of the chief curator and not franchise teams.
Ajinkya Rahane Hits Out At Eden Gardens Pitch Curator
Meanwhile, KKR’s latest fixture against LSG at Eden Gardens was a high-scoring affair as Lucknow posted 238 runs on the board in the first inning. Kolkata almost chased it down but fell short of 4 runs at the end.
With the pitch still not assisting bowlers enough, the KKR captain was asked to share his thoughts on the issues around pitch curation. Ajinkya Rahane, taken aback by the inquiry, let out a smile before dodging the topic diplomatically. However, he did take a sharp dig at curator Sujan Mukherjee.
"Main kuch bolunga to bawaal ho jayega (If I say something, then it'll become a huge headline). The media has already made it a big thing. The curator has already gotten a lot of publicity and I think he enjoys that. So I'll not say anything around the wicket here and will rather say it to the IPL. You guys can write whatever you want," Rahane told RevSportz.
Meanwhile, with the latest loss to LSG, KKR have dropped to 6th place on points table with 4 points in 5 games.
Rahane Slammed Over Captaincy Decisions
It was a forgettable night for KKR and an even worse one for their skipper Ajinkya Rahane, as his captaincy came under fire after LSG posted a monstrous 238/3 in Match 21 of IPL 2025 at Eden Gardens. Rahane was targeted for keeping Andre Russell out of the attack until the 15th over. By then, the Marsh-Pooran storm had already left a trail of destruction. While the bowlers suffered, Rahane’s decision-making, or lack thereof, was the real talking point.
