Dwarshuis and Sean Abbott restrict Brisbane Heat to 114

Brisbane Heat batted first and accrued just 114-9 in 20 overs, despite enjoying a flying 17-ball 31-run start from opener Jack Wildermuth. For the Sydney Sixers, Jack Edwards struck the early blow with the wicket of Lachlan Hearne inside the powerplay. Ben Dwarshuis dismissed Max Bryant and Heat skipper Nathan McSweeney in a single over to claim figures of 2-25.

Hugh Weibgen crafted 24 at a near run-a-ball in the middle overs, but wicket-taking spree from Sean Abbott (2-25) and Joel Davies (2-19) kept Sixers in front throughout the innings. Hayden Kerr also bagged the important wicket of Matt Renshaw in his three-over spell.

Young pacer Oli Patterson struck big for Brisbane Heat with the huge wickets of Babar Azam and Josh Phillipe in successive deliveries. Australian spinner Matthew Kuhnemann also deceived Jordan Silk and Jack Edwards in a single over as the Sixers lost half its side for just 47 on the board.

Xavier Bartlett, Jack Wildermuth and Matt Renshaw all picked up a wicket each to compound Sixers’ misery on a challenging surface. Still 59 runs away from victory, number seven Joel Davies (35* off 26) and tailender Hayden Kerr (27* off 25) stitched together a fighting 62-run partnership for the eighth wicket to take Sydney Sixers home in 18.4 overs.
