The drama surrounding Bangladesh Cricket is escalating each passing day. The current rift between the Bangladeshi players and the BCB is at an all-time high. The chairman of the board's Finance Committee, Najmul Islam, has been sacked from his role.

Amidst all this, the Cricketers' Welfare Association of Bangladesh president, Mohammad Mithun, who announced the players’ strike from the BPL, has been receiving death threats. In a conversation with Cricbuzz, Mithun revealed that he has received threats and also added that he has never spoken anything against his country.

CWAB leadeer receives death threats

“It's true, and I've never had an experience like this. It's the first time in my life. I don't remember ever being involved in controversial talk. It's going over my head – when have I ever spoken against the country?” he said.

He clarified that he only represented the players in the situation and has never spoken anything against his country. According to him, there is no point in being the organisation’s president if he can not talk about his players’ rights.

“I don't know how to take this or describe it, as it happens with me for the first time. I haven't used any word that goes against the country; I only spoke for the interest of cricket and the players. There is no personal issue here. Since I'm the president of an organisation, if I don't talk about players' rights, what's the point of me being in this position? No one is above the country,” he added.

Mithun has not informed BCB about the situation yet

When asked if he had informed BCB about the situation, he said he had yet to speak with the Board. However, he revealed that some other players have also received different threats.

“No, I haven't informed the board. To be honest, I am not picking up calls from unknown numbers on my mobile. But I can't stop messages or voice notes on WhatsApp. I was asked about this there. It's not just me; my number is available to people because it goes to the press on behalf of CWAB. That's why I receive more (calls and messages). But I've heard from other players, too, that they have received threats, different ways and types of threats. I haven't talked to the board about this yet,” he said.

The situation escalated after Najmul Islam’s comments on Tamim Iqbal

The entire fiasco started when Najmul Islam claimed that there would be no financial repercussions for Bangladesh if they boycotted the T20 World Cup 2026, amidst the Mustafizur Rahman row.

In that statement, he had also called Tamim Iqbal “India’s agent” for wanting to play the matches as per the original schedule. The players, in response, decided to protest and boycott the Bangladesh Premier League matches until Najmul Islam is sacked from his role.
