Pakistan's best Test batter at the moment, Saud Shakeel has backed out of form, Babar Azam to regain his touch ahead of the Test series against England, starting on October 7. Babar has had a woeful 2024, where he has struggled for runs across formats.
However, his biggest downfall has come in the game's longest format. Since December 2022, the former Test captain has failed to register a single fifty-plus score in Tests.
He had a big downfall in the Bangladesh Test series recently, wherein the star batter could only accumulate 64 runs in 4 innings, which prompted the decision to drop Babar.
Babar backed to come out of woeful form
However, ahead of the all-important England Tests, star batter, Saud Shakeel has backed Babar to come out of slump and deliver for Pakistan once again. The Pakistan batter attended the pre-series media event and discussed about Babar's form.
“We want to see Babar at his best; he is a key player for us. We might have discussed these happenings among ourselves as a group. But more importantly, we have been discussing how to win this Test series.”
Shakeel also rubbished the rumours that there is a groupism within the Pakistan team. He further stated that they expect England to continue playing in the Bazball way, but Pakistan's coach and captain, Jason Gillespie and Shan Masood have told the team to stay positive and play their natural game.
“England's style of cricket gives you many opportunities to stay in the match, so we need to take advantage of that to finish the match and win the series.”
Babar stepped down from white-ball captaincy post due to conflicts
Babar Azam, recently stepped down from the post of Pakistan's white-ball captain. Reports circulated that Babar was unhappy with the Pakistan teammates, and he felt undervalued in the side, and as a result, he decided to step down from the post.
With the captaincy burden lifted, Babar can now concentrate on his batting, and will be eager to score truckloads of runs in the upcoming Tests against a strong England side.
