The fifth match of Women's T20 World Cup 2024 between Australia and Sri Lanka is turning out to be an interesting game with the world champions losing early wickets in their run-chase against current Asian champions. Sri Lanka scored just 93 while batting first and it was expected to be an easy chase for Australia, but Lankan bowlers are fighting and have managed to dismiss three Aussie batters in the Powerplay.
The first of those wickets was of Alyssa Healy, who was cleaned up by the left-arm seamer Udeshika Prabodhini in the very first over. It was the fourth ball of the innings and Prabodhini bowled it on a length on off. Healy tried to work it towards the leg side, but ended up playing all around the ball and the ball sneaked between bat and pad to hit the timber. The wicket shocked Australia and soon Georgia Wareham also got run out to leave Australia reeling at 14-2.
Ellyse Perry Crosses 3000 T20I Runs
Ellyse Perry then came in and batted well for her 17 and completed 3000 T20I runs as well. However, Sugandika Kumari knocked her down in the final over of the Powerplay to keep Sri Lanka interested in the game.
Earlier, Megan Schutt, the veteran Aussie pacer picked three wickets and became the joint leading wicket-taker in the history of Women's T20 World Cups. Molineux also picked two wickets and Sri Lanka just could not find top gear throughout their innings against a disciplined Australian attack.
