In a conversation with Star Sports' Tamil Cricket podcast, former Indian spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan admired Indian superstar Virat Kohli and likened his aggressive mindset to the West Indies legend Sir Viv Richards. According to Sivaramakrishnan, players need to express emotions and intimidate the opponent as cricket is a very passionate and demanding game.

Virat Kohli is often being compared to great legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Sri Viv Richards for his significant number of runs in international cricket and aggressive approach to modern day hitting. Kohli, in his 17 years long journey playing for India, scripted several records and milestones that will be remembered for ages to come.

While his present form may not match his previously set standards, Virat Kohli is still recognised as the greatest hitter of the generation.

Sivaramakrishnan likens Kohli's mindset to Viv Richards

Having said that, former Indian spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan recently appeared on Cricket Petta, a Star Sports Tamil podcast. He talked about Kohli and listed qualities he adores. Laxman revealed that Virat's aggressive mindset is very similar to Sir Viv Richards as both never shy away from showing their emotions on the ground and intimidating the opposition bowlers with feisty eye contact.

"Kohli’s attacking attitude is something that he himself enjoys and celebrates. You should show your emotions. You shouldn’t be like a machine on the ground. You should have an attitude like Sir Vivian Richards who would intimidate bowlers with his eyes. Kohli’s attacking attitude and Dhoni’s calm demeanour. For me, the red ball best captain is Virat and the white ball is MS Dhoni," he said.

Not only that, Sivaramakrishnan noted that Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni are two of the most special captains India has produced. He rated Kohli a better leader in red-ball cricket and added that Dhoni's legacy is unmatched in the white-ball format.

Virat Kohli reaches Perth for Australia series

Virat Kohli's last dance in Test format seems to be sadly around the corner as he landed in Perth, Australia on Sunday, ahead of Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Kohli left ahead of the Indian team's scheduled departure on Monday accompanied by his wife Anushka Sharma and kids. Virat Kohli, whose Test average dropped below 20 in the last series against New Zealand, is given the final end of the rope to redeem himself in the BGT series, or else BCCI will be forced to pull the plug.
