Team India overcame Australia in Hobart on November 2 to level the five-match T20I series 1-1. Chasing 187 for a win, all-rounder Washington Sundar demonstrated his batting excellence by clattering 49* quick runs from just 23 balls with three fours and four huge sixes.
However, it was comeback man Arshdeep Singh who won the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his three-fer earlier in the game. Nonetheless, captain jubilant Suryakumar Yadav praised the two cricketers, and even celebrated his toss success for a change as India fought back after MCG drubbing earlier this week.
Suryakumar Yadav says Arshdeep-Bumrah ‘lethal combo’
While speaking at the presentation ceremony after the third T20I, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav was all smiles upon breaking the toss curse. He also complimented his team for putting up a comprehensive performance for levelling the series. He said:
“It felt like we’d lost 19 or 20 tosses in a row, so it was great to break that streak. Winning the toss was important today, and I’m really happy with how the team performed.”
Suryakumar Yadav also praised Washington Sundar for his all-round flexibility, and even expressed his admirations for comeback men Arshdeep Singh and Jitesh Sharma. He added:
“Those guys were practicing really hard and waiting for their chance. Washington Sundar showed great flexibility, Jitesh contributed well, and Arshdeep was outstanding. It felt like the right combination tonight.”
The Indian captain further described Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh a lethal combination with the ball, and compared them with their batting counterparts Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma. Suryakumar Yadav stated:
“They are a fantastic pair (Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh)- a bit like Shubman and Abhishek up top. Bumrah does his job quietly, keeps it tight, and Arshdeep capitalizes from the other end. Together, they’re a really lethal combination. It’s (series at 1-1) set up beautifully. We’re heading to a new venue, so it’ll be a fresh challenge, but the boys are confident and enjoying their cricket.”
With series levelled 1-1, India will now face Australia in the fourth T20I on November 6 at the Bill Pippen Oval in Gold Coast.
