KL Rahul to KKR almost done; 3 players who should make way to fit in DC talisman for IPL 2026

On Saturday, November 1, several reports emerged on social media that KL Rahul is likely to leave Delhi Capitals after just one season. Since the trade window is open, it is being said that the Kolkata Knight Riders are eyeing Rahul's move for next season.

If we look at the latest development, then DC are looking to bring in Sanju Samson, while KL Rahul is most likely to head towards KKR. If that happens, then this article will shed light on three approaches for KKR for the auction and the upcoming IPL.

1. Bring KL, free up two overseas slots

KKR had a disastrous season last year as the Ajinkya Rahane-led side finished eighth on the table with just four wins in the entire tournament. If KL Rahul comes to KKR, then the Knight Riders have the option to free up two overseas slots.

Notably, KL Rahul can act as a leader and also keep wickets, which allows KKR to release Quinton de Kock and Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Both the star keeper-batter had an underwhelming season in IPL 2025.

De Kock only amassed 152 runs in eight innings, averaging just 21.71. Meanwhile, Gurbaz, who acted as the back-up keeper, played just five matches and scored 74 runs, averaging just 18.50.

Although there are few chances for Gurbaz to be released, the idea of having two overseas slots freed up before IPL 2026 auction is a welcoming idea, alongside having Rahul in the team.

Let's look at how Rahul performed in IPL 2025 compared to KKR openers

2. A farewell to Andre Russell

For KKR to accommodate KL Rahul, they need to have a huge chunk of bank balance to get the deal done. Andre Russell is one great option for the Knight Riders to have KL Rahul at their helm.

Talking about Russell, he is ageing and is already 37 and will turn 38 by IPL 2026. Further, the Caribbean star, who continues to be a great asset for KKR, is seeing a dip in his form and is not at his best.

There has to be a season where KKR decides that they have to part ways with their longest associations, and if leaving them comes at the expense of bringing in KL Rahul, then it is not a bad idea.

Let's look at how Russell has performed in IPL 2025 and his dip in performance since last season.

3. Release Venkatesh Iyer to free up 23.75 crores

The simplest of moves for KKR is to let go of Venkatesh Iyer for IPL 2026. The Knight Riders bought Iyer for a whopping 23.75 crores, but the southpaw failed miserably.

Iyer struggled to score runs and was neither given a chance to roll his arms, questioning his price tag. Thus, it will be the ideal solution to release Venkatesh Iyer to bring in KL Rahul for IPL 2026.

Let's look at Venkatesh Iyer's performance in IPL 2025.
