If you have been watching IPL 2025 with both eyes wide open, you already know the name Ayush Mhatre. The young gun made headlines the moment he stepped in as a replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad at CSK.
Ayush Mhatre To Open For Suryakumar Yadav Led Side
Now, fresh off his explosive 94 against RCB, Mhatre is all set for his next big challenge which is opening the batting under Suryakumar Yadav in the upcoming T20 Mumbai League.
Mhatre's rise has landed him a prime spot in the T20 Mumbai League, where he will be opening for Triumph Knights Mumbai North East led by none other than Suryakumar Yadav.
The auction saw Ayush Mhatre fetch INR 14.75 Lakhs, making him the highest-paid player this season so far. And it’s no surprise that SKY’s side went hard to grab him.
It is worth mentioning that the two share a solid bond already, both being products of Mumbai cricket. Suryakumar Yadav in fact, publicly praised Mhatre’s knock against RCB by saying “Remember The name” on social media.
Meanwhile, Mhatre wasn’t just another replacement call-up. CSK’s scouts had their eyes on him during mid-season trials at Chepauk. The moment Ruturaj was ruled out with an elbow injury, Mhatre got the nod and history was made. He became the youngest player to debut for CSK and he didn’t waste time making noise.
His first couple of outings 32 and 30 were solid but it was his blockbuster 94 off 48 balls against RCB that got everyone sitting up. Five sixes. Nine fours. A strike rate north of 195. Even though CSK lost that thriller by just two runs, Mhatre had well and truly arrived.
Wankhede To Host T20 Mumbai League
Season 3 of the T20 Mumbai League is back with a bang and this time, it’s bigger and brighter. The Wankhede Stadium will host the entire season from May 26 to June 8. And if that is not enough star power, Rohit Sharma has been unveiled as the face of the league. Expect packed stands, serious competition and all eyes on the young guns.
Two new teams have also entered the fray: SoBo Mumbai Falcons and Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals, adding more fire to an already stacked competition.
