Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Hardik Pandya has been fined for the second time in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season for a slow over-rate offence. The latest breach occurred during MI's high-voltage clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.

Hardik Pandya Recieves Huge Punishment By BCCI

According to an official statement released by the IPL, the Mumbai Indians failed to complete their overs in the allotted time, triggering a penalty under the league’s Code of Conduct related to minimum over-rate requirements.

“As it was his Pandya’s franchise’s second offence of the ongoing season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was given a penalty of INR 24 lakh,” read a statement from the Indian Premier League.

The consequences did not end with the captain. All other members of the playing XI, including the Impact Player Karan Sharma and Concussion Substitute Ashwani Kumar, were also fined. Each of them will have to pay either INR 6 lakh or 25 percent of their individual match fee, whichever is less.

It is important to mention that this is the second instance this season where Hardik Pandya has faced disciplinary action for over-rate issues.

“The rest of the players of the Playing XI, including the impact player and the concussion substitute, will have to pay either INR 6 lakh or 25 percent of their respective match fees as a fine, whichever is lesser,” the statement further said.

Apart from MI, Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra was also fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.

With this win, GT now sits firmly at the top of the standings with 16 points from 11 matches. For MI, despite the loss, the Hardik Pandya-led side remains in strong contention for the playoffs, currently positioned fourth on the table with 14 points from 12 matches. This win brought an end to MI’s impressive six-match winning streak.

MI’s focus will now shift to their upcoming clash against PBKS, scheduled for May 11 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. With playoff spots still up for grabs, every game becomes critical for Mumbai.
