India's first match against Australia in the 3-match ODI series ended on a disappointing note after 7-wicket defeat in Perth. Making their comeback after 224 days, both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma failed to perform, putting the rest of the batting line-up in huge trouble.
Despite a setback, former cricketer Varun Aaron believes that Kohli will perform in the upcoming matches. The star batter was dismissed on a duck after returning to international cricket after eight months. He fell prey to Mitchell Starc's brilliant bowling under overcast conditions.
Varun Aaron predicts Virat Kohli's desired venue after setback
Virat Kohli has been in great form in terms of fitness. However, the lack of match practice was quite evident in his performance today. Even after playing eight balls, he struggled to get off the mark and was eventually dismissed by Starc. While speaking on JioStar, Varun Aaron mentioned that the right-handed batter will love to play in Adelaide since he has performed well in the past.
"Virat Kohli has very fond memories of Adelaide. If there's any ground he'd want to go to after scoring his first duck against Australia, it would be Adelaide, where he began his incredible run during the 2014 Test series," said Aaron on JioHotstar.
The key for India is not to press the panic button: Varun Aaron
The former bowler explained how the Adelaide pitch might suit the Indian batters, which might be a massive advantage for the visitors. His advice to the players was to remain calm and not "press the panic button" early on.
"I believe the Adelaide surface will suit the Indians much more than what we saw today. It won't have as much bounce, will be more even-paced, and there should be less lateral movement. The key for India is not to press the panic button too early. It's only their first match outside the subcontinent in a long time, so some adjustment is natural. If they lose the second game, there might be concern, but for now, it's just one of those days. Somebody has to win, somebody has to lose, and today, Australia were simply the better team," he added.
India will take on Australia in the second match on October 23, in Adelaide. Since the first match didn't go as expected, the fans would likely catch a thrilling game in the future.
