The Pakistan cricket board has made multiple changes in the last few years. The captains, coach, selectors and many other stakeholders have been changed with an aim of improving the state of Pakistan cricket. They are now all set for another big move by appointing Misbah-ul-Haq as the Director of International Cricket.
Misbah-ul-Haq has been a successful captain for Pakistan and is known for his leadership and deep understanding of the game. He has previously served as a head coach and chief selector of Pakistan in 2019, and it seems that PCB are keen to have him in an important position once again.
Misbah-ul-Haq front-runner to replace Usman Wahla
The development has been reported through an X post from Saleem Khaliq, a senior sports journalist and writer in Pakistan. PCB recently issued an advertisement for the post of Director of International Cricket after removing Usman Wahla from that position. Only the person who has played Test cricket or ODIs can take the position, according to the advertisement released by PCB. Meanwhile, Usman Wahla is likely to be shifted to PCB management, as Misbah emerges as the front-runner to replace him.
Overall, there are also speculations that Mohammad Rizwan would be removed as ODI captain after Pakistan's disappointing Champions Trophy campaign. The cricket in the country have been on a decline in the last few years, and Pakistan has not been able to find favourable results consistently in any of the three formats.
Misbah-ul-Haq, if appointed, would be looking to change this downward trajectory of Pakistan cricket and bring them back among the premier cricketing nations of the world. Currently, Pakistan are in the middle of the Test series against South Africa and have taken the lead of 1-0 by winning the game in Lahore.
