It has been two days since the tragic event involving former Australian cricketer Damien Martyn. The 54-year-old was rushed to the hospital after he fell ill during the Boxing Day Test at the MCG. The Australian great was placed in an induced coma as he continues to suffer from meningitis at a Brisbane hospital.
Meningitis is a fatal condition that causes inflammation of protective membranes covering the spinal cord and brain. The entire cricketing fraternity and fans are concerned for the former cricketer, who graced the field in 67 Tests and 208 ODIs.
However, in the latest events, Adam Gilchrist, who played a lot of cricket with Martyn, has dropped a health update on the 54-year-old.

“He’s still in hospital. There’ll be more details come out as they come to hand but certainly in the last 24 hours, some positive signs are the indications coming out of the various tests he’s having. There’s been so much interest and love. A fine player, terrific fella. I just hope he can continue a recovery.” Gilchrist said on Fox Cricket.
Gilchrist also congratured Martyn's family, who took timely action and has been taking extremely good care of the former Australia cricketer.
“On behalf of Damien Martyn, a great friend, a former teammate of a few of us … on behalf of his family, Amanda his partner, thank you to everyone for the heartfelt love and wishes and care for Damien as he’s gone through and continues to go through a challenging time,” Gilchrist said.

The 54-year-old made his Australia debut in 1992 and represented the Kangaroos for 14 years. In his illustrious career, Martyn scored 9752 runs in 275 matches across format.
Even after retirement, Damien Martyn was active in cricket with presenter duties and it was the first time that Damien contacted a health issue of such sort.
