With the India-Bangladesh bilateral series around the corner, India’s promising young talent, Sarfaraz Khan is eyeing a return to competitive cricket with a much fitter and leaner version.

Sarfaraz Khan fulfilled his dream in March this year as he made his debut for India in international cricket against England.

The Mumbai-based cricketer came in as a replacement for injured Shreyas Iyer and immediately slammed a half century in his Test debut.

However, Sarfaraz Khan was sidelined from the IPL 2024 season and hasn’t featured in a competitive game since.

Regardless, the young cricketer is using the off-time to work on his fitness. In a recent interview, Sarfraz revealed that he went back to his native village in Uttar Pradesh and developed a fitness routine to shed some excess weight.

"There is nothing called off-season for me. I would wake up by 4.15 am and by 4.30 am, I will start the day with long-distance running. It was very helpful to improve my fitness because by the end of the month, I was able to run 5 km in 30-31 minutes,"  Sarfaraz told Indian Express.

Sarfaraz added that he woke up at 5.am everyday and due to discipline, he was able to run 5 kms in just 30 minutes.

"Once I’m done with my running, I would hit the gym. So the first half of the day was allotted for fitness and fielding drills. The batting part would begin in the evening."

Sarfaraz Khan Not 'Looking At' BAN Tests

As far as a comeback on the national side is concerned, Sarfaraz Khan isn’t getting too ahead of himself.

"I'm not looking at the Bangladesh series. But I've to follow the process and be ready. I have zero expectations… But I’ll be ready if the opportunity arises. That is what I've been doing all along and I don’t see any reason to change that," he added.

While he wants to play in the Bangladesh series, his immediate focus is the Buchi Babu tournament. He has set no expectations for the selection process but will be ready to hop on when the opportunity arises.
