Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody has lauded the recent trade move of all-rounder Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans (GT) to Mumbai Indians (MI) as a 'masterstroke.'

The official announcement of Hardik Pandya joining Mumbai and Cameron Green joining Bangalore came a day after the IPL player retention list was revealed.

In a strategic move, Mumbai Indians sent Australian all-rounder Cameron Green to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in an all-cash deal, freeing up their purse for the upcoming player auction in Dubai on December 19.

MI reportedly paid INR 15 crore, equivalent to Pandya's salary, along with an undisclosed transfer fee to GT. The details of the transfer fee will be made public by the IPL. Notably, as part of the agreement with GT, Pandya is set to receive 50% of the additional fee.

Expressing his thoughts on social media platform 'X,' Tom Moody characterised Pandya's move to MI as a masterstroke. He suggested that, among the three franchises involved, Gujarat Titans might have faced the most significant impact due to this transaction.

“Last-minute trade for Mumbai Indians allows them to secure @hardikpandya7, a masterstroke. Green going to @RCBTweets frees up the cash to secure the dream trade. Out of the 3 franchises involved, feel Titans have come off the worst,”  Tom Moody wrote on his ‘X' handle.

Pandya's transfer from Gujarat to Mumbai created a stir ahead of the 17th edition of the IPL. Despite featuring in the retention list submitted by Gujarat on the deadline day, Pandya's move to Mumbai was confirmed as part of an all-cash deal. The trading window remains open until December 12, one week before the auction in Dubai, providing teams with additional flexibility.

The Baroda-based all-rounder made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in 2015 and played a crucial role in the franchise's success, contributing to four title victories in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.

His return to Mumbai Indians marks a significant reunion for the all-rounder with the team, where he initially gained prominence through their scouting network. After Rohit ends his career, Pandya is expected to don the captain's hat.
