Top 5 IPL Teams Who Could Target Mitchell Starc in 2024 Auction

In a significant development, ace Australian speedster Mitchell Starc confirmed his participation in the IPL 2024. The veteran cricketer, who has always prioritised international cricket over T20 leagues, stated that he would be back in the lucrative league, considering the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean next year. 

As Starc has revealed his plans to feature in the IPL, here are five top teams that could target him in the upcoming auction. 


Mumbai Indians

Studded with superstars throughout the lineup, Mumbai Indians had an inspirational journey in the IPL 2023. Despite having a few concerns in their bowling department, the five-time champions reached Qualifier 2, where they lost to eventual runners-up, Gujarat Titans. 

Although MI's batting unit had astounding success, injuries to Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer adversely affected their bowling in the tournament. As Archer, bought for a whopping 8 Crores, has missed most matches due to injury, the franchise might release him, roping in Starc as his replacement. 


Royal Challengers Bangalore

Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore had a topsy-turvy campaign in the IPL 2023, finishing sixth in the group-stage standings with 14 points to their name. However, their bowling department lacked quality, as the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Vyshak Vijaykumar and Wayne Parnell were inconsistent with the ball. 

Furthermore, Reece Topley was ruled out after sustaining a shoulder injury in the initial half of the tournament. So, considering his proneness to injury, the franchise might consider buying Starc, who was earlier a part of the team. 


Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings added another feather to their decorated crown, clinching the IPL title for a record fifth time earlier this year. Led by the legendary MS Dhoni, the Super Kings emerged victorious in the all-important final against Gujarat Titans, riding on Ravindra Jadeja's final over heroics. 

However, their seam bowling department needs some fine-tuning, as Deepak Chahar has repeatedly struggled with his hamstring. Therefore, they might consider releasing a high-budget pick like Ben Stokes and drafting Starc to their squad for the IPL 2024. 


Delhi Capitals

In the absence of regular skipper Rishabh Pant, Delhi Capitals had a horrendous run in the IPL 2023, occupying the ninth position in the standings with only ten points. While their batting unit looked lacklustre, the Capitals' pace attack failed to scalp breakthroughs in crucial junctures. 

So, in a bid to revamp their core, Delhi Capitals could get in Starc to lead their pace attack, releasing a few non-performing overseas players from their setup. 


Sunrisers Hyderabad

Much like Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad also had a miserable journey in the IPL 2023, finishing at the bottom in the group-stage standings with eight points in 14 appearances. They had a few glorious moments but failed to step up as a team in the mega event. 

Regarding Hyderabad's pace department, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is at the twilight of his career, while Fazalhaq Farooqi, Marco Jansen and Umran Malik are yet to evolve as bowlers. So, they might think of introducing someone like Starc to their setup, as he can spearhead their bowling unit with his ability and experience.
