One of the leading pacers in the modern-day era, Australia's Mitchell Starc, has often refrained from playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) while keeping international duties rather than franchise cricket a priority. Starc, who last played in IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2015, has expressed a desire to feature in the upcoming 2024 edition. With the ICC T20 World Cup also scheduled for next year, the IPL could provide the perfect training for Starc.

Speaking to Willow Talk Cricket Podcast, the 33-year-old opened up about playing IPL ahead of a rather quiet home-season for Australia.

'Definitely going back to IPL next year'- Mitchell Starc

"Look it's been eight years. I'm definitely going back in [next] year. Amongst other things, it's a great lead-up to the T20 World Cup," Starc said.

"So a good opportunity to see if anyone's interested in the IPL, then lead into the T20 World Cup. And it's somewhat of a quiet winter next year in comparison to this winter, so I think a perfect opportunity to put my name in," he added.

Starc has played 27 IPL matches for RCB across two seasons, claiming 34 wickets. The star pacer was purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2018 but withdrew given Australia's hectic cricketing season.

Meanwhile, Starc has been named in Australia's 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India beginning next month. The left-arm pacer is currently undergoing rehabilitation for groin issues, which forced Starc out of the South Africa tour.
