We are inching closer to the most important ICC event, the Cricket World Cup 2023. There are several records which every player wishes to be a part of. But there are certain other records that the players would not wish to be included in them. Here we have one of the unwanted records of which no bowler would wish to be a part of and there are three Indians in the top five.

Let's have a look at the top 5 bowlers with the worst economy rate in ODIs with a minimum of 300 overs bowled:

Shardul Thakur (6.20)

Shardul Thakur, who is known for breaking partnerships is at the top spot of an unwanted record in ODI cricket. He is also a part of the 15-man squad of the Indian team that will be playing in the World Cup.

Shardul Thakur has been part of 43 One-Day Internationals and he has bowled 302 overs so far. He rarely bowls in the powerplay as the team wants him to bowl in the middle overs. He has been a wicket-taker for India and has taken 63 wickets, but the concern for him is that he is giving too many runs as his economy rate is 6.20, which is considered to be very high in ODI cricket.

James Neesham (6.09)

The man who had an amazing time at the final of the World Cup 2019 but ended up on a losing side, James Neesham is second on the list. Neesham has been in and out of New Zealand's squad but he eventually makes a comeback in the ICC tournaments and he will also be there in the World Cup 2023.

Neesham has played 73 One-Day Internationals and is famous for his all-round skills. He is certainly used as a sixth bowling option in the team but he gives way too many runs sometimes. He has bowled over 390 overs and has picked up 69 wickets but he is on this list because his economy rate of 6.09 is considered the worst in modern-day cricket.

S Sreesanth (6.07)

Sreesanth, who has been a part of India's two World Cup-winning squads is also a part of this unwanted record and stands third. He was a part of the 2011 World Cup winning squad and the 2007 T20 World Cup winning squad.

Sreesanth has played 53 One-Day Internationals for the Indian team and has picked up 75 wickets in this format. With bowling around 412 overs, his economy of 6.07 was not good enough throughout his career, which eventually led to the downfall of his career.

Ben Stokes (6.05)

One of the modern-day greats of the sport, Ben Stokes surprisingly stands fourth under this unwanted record. Stokes gave his all for the 2019 World Cup and helped England lift the World Cup trophy for the first time.  He has been a gun of a player and has been recalled from retirement to represent England at the upcoming World Cup.

With over 100 ODIs under his belt, he has bowled around 518 overs in 88 innings. He has taken 74 wickets so far but has one of the worst economy rates 6.05 in this format of the game. Well, he will not be bowling in this World Cup, so it will not be an issue for the English team.

Umesh Yadav (6.01)

Umesh Yadav is the third Indian in the list of bowlers with worst economy rates. He has also represented India at the 2015 World Cup and was a consistent member of the Indian team a few years back. But he has been expensive throughout his career.

He has featured in 75 ODIs for the Indian team and has picked up 106 wickets in his career so far. The right-arm seamer has bowled 593 overs but still, his economy rate of 6.01 was one of the worst, which eventually led him out of the Indian bowling set-up.
