In the first innings, Botham went on to scalp six wickets and restricted the likes of Sunil Gavaskar to just 242. He did not stop there and went on to smash a century, helping England get a lead of 54 runs. 

In India's second innings, Botham showcased his mastery and went on to pick seven wickets, bundling out the Indian team for just 149 runs. His 13-wicket haul in the only Test in 1980 along with a century, helped England seal a win over the host by ten wickets. Botham with his amazing bowling figures, stands tallest in the best bowling performances in the contest between these two teams. 


Vinoo Mankad - 12/108

Vinoo Mankad's performance in the Test match in Chennai in February 1952 is still recognised as one of the greatest displays of spin bowling skills. Mankad went on to scalp 12 wickets for 108 runs demonstrating his composure and ability to destroy the English batting lineup. His mighty performance played a crucial role in the Test match helping India defeat England by an innings and eight runs.

He helps India bowl out England for 266 in the first innings, taking an astonishing 8 wickets. While the Madras Test posed a challenge to the bowlers, but Mankad's spin abilities turned out to favour the Indians. Mankad's ability to draw batters out and leave them stumped was clear, as he bagged four wickets only from stumpings. 


Ravichandran Ashwin - 12/167

India's best off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, who is also on the edge of reaching 500 Test wickets, was the premier bowler for the Indian team in the Test series against England in the year 2016. He went on to scalp 28 wickets in the five-match Test series, helping India dominate the visitors by sealing the series with 4-Nil. 

In the fourth Test of the series, which was being played in Wankhede, Ravi Ashwin with his bowling mastery, went on to scalp a total of 12 wickets in the game. He took six wickets in each of the innings and helped India seal the series with this win over the hosts. With his 12-wicket haul, he comes second on the list of best bowling performances in India vs England Tests. 


Axar Patel - 11/70

In his debut Test series, Axar Patel wrecked the English batting line-up with his supreme left-arm bowling skills. It was the third match of the Test series between India and England in Ahmedabad and was only the second match for Axar Patel. When the Pink ball was handed over to the slow left-arm bowler, he went on to scalp six wickets in the first innings, helping India bowl out England for just 112 runs. 

Axar was no different in the second innings and went on to register another fifer and this time England was bowled out for just 81 runs. Recording his best figures as 11/70 in the Test, Axar comes third among the best bowling performances. 


Monty Panesar - 11/210

The left-arm slow bowler from England, Monty Panesar delivered one of the best performances for England in 2012 and that was the last time India ever lost a Test series at home. On the iconic ground of Mumbai, Wankhede Stadium, Monty Panesar went on to scalp 11 wickets and helped England win the second Test of the series. 

India were leading the series by winning the first game, but Monty Panesar and Graeme Swann turned out to be the absolute guns for the English team and helped them make a comeback in the series. Monty with his fifer in the first innings and a six-wicket haul in the second innings, delivered a match-winning performance and helped England level the series.
