A long-standing partnership between a player and a team fosters success, with loyalty and consistency paving the way for greatness. When a bowler thrives under the same banner for years, their wicket-taking prowess becomes identical to the team’s legacy.

Legendary IPL cricketers like Sunil Narine and former speedster Lasith Malinga forged highly lucrative partnerships with their respective franchises in the tournament. Celebrating such long-standing associations in T20 cricket overall, here is a look at five bowlers with the highest number of wickets in the format for a single team.

5. David Payne (Gloucestershire) – 193 wickets

Gloucestershire extremist David Payne has picked up 193 wickets for the cricket club, all within England’s prestigious T20 Blast competition since 2010. The cricketer has bowled in 140 innings spanning 142 matches for Gloucestershire, and enjoyed his best Blast year last season by snaring 33 wickets in just 17 innings. Maintaining an impressive bowling average of 12.75, the left-arm fast bowler also managed to strangulate opposition batters as he held an economy of just 6.29 an over throughout the season.

Payne’s overall Gloucestershire tally features 193 wickets from 140 innings at an average of 20.35, with four four-wicket hauls and one five-fer in the mix. Notably, his 193-wicket collection for Gloucestershire makes up for nearly 80 percent of his career T20 wickets (249).

4. Lasith Malinga (Mumbai Indians) – 195 wickets

Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga spent the entirety of his decade-long IPL career for the Mumbai Indians franchise. The leading wicket-taker for Mumbai Indians in history by a landslide, the cricketer has collected 195 wickets (CLT20 + IPL) from just 137 innings at an average of just 19.35. Moreover, Malinga claimed 170 of those wickets in 122 innings of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to emerge as one of the most successful fast bowlers in the history of the tournament.

The former cricketer was also a part of an IPL winning team for the Mumbai Indians on four occasions during his playing days.

3. Chris Wood (Hampshire) – 199 wickets

Born in Hampshire, England’s Chris Wood has picked up 199 of his 214 T20 wickets for Hampshire’s T20 team alone. Yet to make his international debut, the speedster continues to remain one of the most influential bowlers for his cricket club in England’s domestic circuit. In 176 Blast games, Wood skittled 191 wickets for Hampshire at an average of 25.76, recording three four-fers and a five-wicket haul in the process since his debut back in 2010.

2. Sunil Narine (Kolkata Knight Riders) – 200 wickets

Prominent T20 globetrotter Sunil Narine picked up his 200th wicket for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the early stages of the IPL 2025 season. Having made his IPL debut back in 2012, Narine snared 67 of those wickets within his first three seasons alone, and starred in KKR’s title victories on two of those occasions. The West Indies all-rounder added 17 more to his tally in KKR’s emphatic third trophy win in 2024.

Notably, Sunil Narine has collected 182 wickets for KKR in IPL alone, and skittled his remaining 18 victims in the now-defunct Champions League T20 to hold an overall collection of 200 wickets for the franchise in just 187 innings at an impressive average of 24.14.

1. Samit Patel (Nottinghamshire) – 208 wickets

Left-arm English spinner Samit Patel captured 208 wickets for Nottinghamshire’s T20 team between the years 2002 and 2023 before he joined Derbyshire. The cricketer played 232 matches for the club and maintained a healthy bowling average of around 25.

The cunning spin operator enjoyed his best Blast season in 2010 where he picked up 17 wickets, and collected 16 wickets in a single season on four separate occasions. Samit Patel’s overall T20 profile is glittered with 352 wickets at an average of 26.05.
