India are once more set to take on Australia in a five-match T20I series beginning October 29, 2025. Australia has always been a venue where Indian batsmen have needed to show their class against pace, bounce, and big grounds.

Throughout the years, some Indian legends have grasped these conditions, and they made their mark with style.

Here is a list of the top 5 Indian run-getters in T20Is in Australia, and it is a lineup of legends, consistency, and flashes of brilliance.

Talented batsman KL Rahul comes fifth with 236 runs in 12 games at a average of 21.45 and strike rate of 116.83. Though not popular for explosive starts Down Under, Rahul has shown glimpses of brilliance with 3 half-centuries to his name.

He scored 51 off 35 balls against Zimbabwe in Melbourne during the 2022 T20 World Cup. Earlier, he had struck 51 off 40 against Australia in Canberra. Rahul’s calm technique and adaptability have often helped India get steady starts, even on tricky Australian wickets.

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav ranks fourth with 239 runs in 6 matches, boasting an incredible average of 59.75 and a jaw-dropping strike rate of 189.68. Every time SKY walks out to bat in Australia, it’s pure entertainment.

His 68 from 40 balls against South Africa in Perth in the 2022 T20 World Cup is one of the best knocks ever played on a bouncy pitch. Australia’s pace and bounce seem to bring out the best in Suryakumar. And going into this series, he will back himself to break out from the rough patch and move up in this list.

At number three is former opener Shikhar Dhawan, who amassed 271 runs in 9 matches at an average of 33.87 and a strike rate of 153.97. With his fearless approach, Dhawan thrived on Australian pitches that offered pace and bounce.

His best came in Brisbane in 2018, where he hammered 76 off 42 balls with ten fours and two sixes, a knock that nearly took India home in a rain-shortened chase.

Another memorable innings was his 52 off 36 in Sydney (2020), where he helped India chase down 195. Even though Dhawan no longer features in India’s T20 plans, his aggressive style was tailor-made for Australian conditions.

He also smashed iconic 82 off 53 balls in Melbourne in 2022, proving his mastery over Australian conditions yet again. Whether it’s timing, temperament, or tenacity, Virat Kohli has shown all of it every time he’s stepped out in Australia.
