On Wednesday at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, Laura Wolvaardt launched a flurry of fours in the ongoing Women's World Cup 2025 1st semi-final against England to become the first South African woman to complete 5000 runs in the ICC ODI event. With this, Wolvaardt became the sixth player in history to reach the 5000-run mark in the format. 

To celebrate Laura Wolvaardt’s incredible achievement, here is a look at the top five players with the most runs in Women's ODIs for South Africa.

5 - Trisha Chetty, 2703 runs

Former wicket-keeper batter, Trisha Chetty, in her 16-year-long career, played from 2007 to 2022, and amassed as many as 2703 runs for South Africa women in ODIs. Appearing in 134 matches and 113 innings, she scored 16 fifties in her career. Hailed for her athletic wicket-keeping abilities, Shetty usually batted down the order and sometimes even at eight.  

4 - Lizelle Lee, 3315 runs

A hard-hitting batsman hailing from the Transvaal, Lizelle Lee is the fourth-highest run scorer in the one-day format for South Africa women. Playing from 2013 to 2022, she has scored 3315 runs with 132* being her highest knock in the format. 

With 3 centuries and 23 half-centuries to her name, Lee had been one of the few prominent names in the Proteas women’s cricket. Notably, in May 2018, during the series against Bangladesh Women, she became the third player for South Africa Women to score 2,000 runs in WODIs.

3 - Marizanne Kapp, 3465* runs

Certainly an unexpected name in the tally, Marizanne Kapp, who is widely known for her pace bowling, has 3465 runs to her name and ranks 3rd in the list of most runs for South Africa WODIs. After making her international debut at the 2009 ODI World Cup, Marizanne Kapp has evolved into a proper match-winning player, one of the premier all-rounders in the game. Moreover, she holds the record for the highest score by a South Africa player at a women's World Cup: 102* against Pakistan in Cuttack in 2013. 

2 - Mignon du Preez, 3760 runs

Born in Pretoria, Mignon du Preez, in her time in the South African colors, accumulated as many as 3760 runs, appearing in 154 games in ODIS. With 2 tons and 18 half-centuries in the same format, du Preez is one of the most well-regarded names in the women’s cricket setup . 

Having established herself as a reliable top-order batsman for South Africa, du Preez was even trusted with the captaincy in 2011 and went on to lead the side in 46 ODIs, 50 T20Is, and one Test match. Under her captaincy, South Africa reached their first Women's T20 World Cup semi-final in 2014 and achieved their first ODI series wins in India and Bangladesh.

Leading South African women in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, 26-year-old Laura Wolvaardt, became the first and only batter to reach 5000 ODI runs for the Proteas. With a habit of leading from the front and achieving great records to her name, Wolvaardt showcased her ability young in her career. 

Notably, in February 2016, she made her Women's One Day International debut in the opening match of a three-match series against England, aged 16. In the second match of the series, she scored her maiden half-century in a 114-run partnership with Trisha Chetty.

At present, this South African prodigy has 9 hundreds and 39 fifties in the format, and surely, the way she is going, she has more achievements to reach.
