The lineage of Pakistan’s batters boasts a rich legacy of flair and resilience, shaping the nation’s fortunes in some of the world’s most prestigious ODI events, including the World Cup and Champions Trophy. Over the years, several batting stalwarts have risen to the occasion, delivering match-winning performances on the grandest stages.

Among them, three players have stood out the most by demonstrating remarkable consistency and by thriving under pressure. Here, we take a look at three of Pakistan’s most proficient run-getters in ICC ODI tournaments.

3. Babar Azam – 1,014 runs

Babar Azam became the latest Pakistani batter to cross the 1,000-run mark in ICC ODI events, doing so through the course of his top-order cameo against India in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The modern-day batting behemoth scored 23 in the match to extend his tally to 1,014 runs in 24 matches of high-profile ICC tournaments like Champions Trophy and ODI World Cups.

While Babar Azam has minted 794 of those runs in 17 World Cup matches at a prolific batting average of 52.93 spanning 2019 and 2023 editions, the cricketer tallied the remaining 220 runs in seven ICC Champions Trophy innings. Babar has been highly proficient for Pakistan in ODI World Cup, considering he has recorded a century and seven additional fifty-plus scores in the prestigious tournament. However, in Champions Trophy, the Pakistani batting great has maintained a slightly lower average of 44 after his first seven matches from 2017 and 2025 editions, and has managed to list just one half-century.

2. Javed Miandad – 1,083 runs

Javed Miandad, one of the world’s greatest batters of all time, continues to remain Pakistan’s biggest batting exponent in ICC ODI World Cup even after nearly three decades into his retirement from international cricket. Miandad played 33 World Cup matches for Pakistan since the tournament’s inaugural chapter in 1975 up until the 1996 edition in India.

With not a single cap in ICC Champions Trophy, Javed Miandad’s tally in ICC events still reads 1,083 runs at an exceptional batting average of 43.32. He stockpiled 437 of those runs during Pakistan’s victorious 1992 World Cup campaign in Australia, doing so in just eight matches at an average of 62.42 with five regal half centuries.

1. Saeed Anwar – 1,204 runs

Legendary opener Saeed Anwar made his exit from international cricket back in 2003. With 915 runs in just 21 innings, Anwar retired from the game as Pakistan’s second highest run aggregator in ICC ODI World Cup matches. Moreover, the blistering top-order batter also retired as Pakistan’s most proficient Champions Trophy batter at the time (now third) with 289 runs in just four innings at an unreal average of 144.50.

With an overall tally of 1,204 runs across both, the ICC ODI World Cups and the ICC Champions Trophy, Saeed Anwar continues to stand the tallest among Pakistan’s elite batting pantheon of run-makers in ICC ODI events. The former cricketer tallied his runs in just 25 innings to maintain an astonishing batting average of 63.36, and recorded five tons and four additional half-centuries in the process.
