Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami sent down as many as five wides in the opening over of the match itself against Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium. Taking field for India in match number five of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, Shami bowled 11 deliveries in the first over to Pakistani openers Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq.

Creating an unwanted record of bowling one of the most extensive overs by an Indian in an ODI against Pakistan, Mohammed Shami was brutally trolled by several social media users.

Fans troll Mohammed Shami for wayward over

Mohammed Shami bowled five wides to deliver an 11-ball opening over against Pakistan in match five of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Shami’s wayward over prompted several social media users to take to X and make hilarious memes at the expense of the Indian speedster.

Notably, Mohammed Shami also scaled an unwanted record of bowling the joint-longest over ever among Indian bowlers in ODI history, joining Irfan Pathan (2006) and Zaheer Khan (2003) in the process.

Mohammed Shami’s five-ball over also marks the second longest ever opening over in the history of ICC Champions Trophy, with the Indian fast bowler falling behind the previous unwanted record set by Zimbabwe’s Tinashe Panyangara in a match against England back in 2004.

Despite bowling five wides in his first over of the match, Mohammed Shami conceded just 13 runs in the first three overs of his opening spell to prevent Pakistani openers from flourishing early in the powerplay.
