In a significant development, there are reports that the Delhi Capitals are planning for a massive overhaul in leadership for their IPL and WPL sides ahead of a busy season in early 2026. The Capitals posted a video on their social media handle, teasing fans of a major development.
A report from Cricbuzz stated that the Capitals are all set to appoint Jemimah Rodrigues as their new captain for WPL 2026 after her heroics for India during 2025 Women's ODI World Cup.
Further, the video, which is now spreading like fire on social media, was captioned “𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁. Coming your way on 23 December, at 6 PM”. The fans quickly jumped to conclusions, and numerous theories were pitched in the comment section. The two most prominent ones were the appointment of new captains in WPL and IPL.
Jemimah Rodrigues to lead DC in WPL
The fourth edition of WPL starts from January 9, and the Capitals are without a captain. The three-time runners-up released Meg Lanning ahead of the mega-auction and are now most likely to go ahead with Jemimah Rodrigues as their new leader.
Notably, during the IPL 2026 mega-auction, DC co-owner Parth Jindal had confirmed that their new captain will be Indian, further hinting at Rodrigues’ appointment as the new leader. Therefore, DC will unveil Jemimah as the DC captain on Tuesday at 6:00 pm.
Axar Patel likely to be replaced as captain
Notably, right after DC dropped the teaser video, Vaibhav Bhola took to Twitter to break that the Delhi Capitals are set to replace Axar Patel with KL Rahul as the new Delhi Capitals captain for IPL 2026. For the unversed, Patel was instated as the skipper for IPL 2025 after Rishabh Pant’s departure.
Patel got off to a great start, but eventually the side faltered and finished fifth on the table with seven wins in 14 matches, failing to qualify for the playoffs. Therefore, reports suggest that the teaser video could be about Rahul as the new captain.
