New Zealand has been a proud home to some of cricket’s finest batters, carrying a rich lineage of stroke-makers from the days of Glenn Turner and Martin Crowe to the modern brilliance of Kane Williamson. Celebrating New Zealand cricket, here is a look at six of the nation’s highest century-makers across all international formats combined.

6. Tom Latham – 21 centuries

Tom Latham has listed 21 centuries for New Zealand ever since he made his international debut back in early 2012. A wicketkeeper-batter by profession, Latham belted 13 of his 21 centuries in Test cricket alone, doing so in 88 matches. The cricketer notched up each of his remaining eight tons in ODIs, with the match-winning 145* from 104 balls he cracked against India in November 2022 in a huge chase being his magnum opus performance.

Tom Latham recorded his eighth ODI century by lighting up the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy on its opening day against Pakistan, minting 118 unbeaten runs from just 104 balls in Karachi.

5. Martin Crowe – 21 centuries

The late Martin Crowe, one of New Zealand’s greatest ever batter, made 17 Test centuries in 77 matches and another four tons in 143 ODIs for an overall haul of 21 international hundreds. In a career spanning 13 years between 1982 and 1995, the former middle-order batter stockpiled 52 additional scores of 50 or more, and maintained a competitive batting average of nearly 42.

4. Martin Guptill – 23 centuries

Former New Zealand cricketer Martin Guptill is one of the few players in the world to have plundered centuries in each international format. The blistering opening batter made three Test centuries in 47 matches, and another two in 122 T20Is. A formidable opener regardless of the format, Martin Guptill was highly proficient in ODIs, recording 18 tons and 39 fifties in his 198-match career between 2009 and 2022. Guptill also notched up New Zealand’s highest ever individual score in ODIs, doing so by whacking 237* against West Indies in the quarter-final of the 2015 World Cup.

3. Nathan Astle – 27 centuries

Former New Zealand opener and 2000 Champions Trophy-winner Nathan Astle charted 27 international centuries, including 11 in 81 Tests and another 16 in 223 ODI matches. A hard-hitting top-order batter, Astle also recorded 65 half-centuries across both formats. The legendary opener holds a unique distinction of recording the highest individual score in the history of ICC Champions Trophy to date, doing so by making 145* runs against USA during the 2004 edition to list his 14th ODI ton.

2. Ross Taylor – 40 centuries

New Zealand batting great Ross Taylor made 40 international centuries during his 16-year career. Recording 21 of those hundreds in 236 ODI matches, Taylor remains New Zealand’s highest century-maker in the format. The legendary middle-order batter made his remaining 19 centuries in 112 Tests, the second highest among all New Zealand players to date. One of the best innings of his Test career remains the 290 runs he reaped off Australian bowlers at The WACA in November 2015, which also marks New Zealand’s third highest individual score in Tests.

1. Kane Williamson – 47 centuries

Statistically, Kane Williamson remains New Zealand’s greatest ever batter by a landslide. With 33 Test tons in just 105 matches, Williamson finds himself 14 clear of second-placed Ross Taylor as his nation’s highest century-maker in the format. By recording 14 more centuries in ODIs, the cricketer’s current international tally stands at a formidable 47, one of the highest among all contemporary players.

Kane Williamson also holds prolific batting averages in both formats, as he maintains a rate of 54.88 in Tests and that of 49.54 in ODIs. While the former New Zealand skipper is yet to taste similar success in T20Is, he has racked up 18 half-centuries in the game’s shortest format.
