Mushfiqur Rahim is playing his 100th Test against Ireland at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, and while at it, the veteran batter also scored a century in the first innings to be the 11th man in cricket history to score 100 in their 100th Test.
Nevertheless, other than this record, Rahim is also marked as the Bangladeshi cricketer with the most hundreds in Tests. Alongside Rahim, there are several other names too who had chipped in with their grit to score the most tons for their team. Here's a look at all of these players.
5) Mahmudullah, Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das - 5 centuries
Mahmudullah, Shakib Al Hasan, and Litton Das can be considered the three pillars of Bangladesh’s Test cricket, although only the latter remains active in the longest format. All three players have five Test centuries to their name.
Mahmudullah, the veteran Test all-rounder, finished his career with 2,914 runs and 43 wickets from 50 matches. He also recorded 16 half-centuries in the format.
Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh’s star all-rounder known for his remarkable consistency, has played 71 Tests, scoring 4,609 runs and taking 246 wickets. He has 31 half-centuries along with 19 five-wicket hauls and two 10-wicket match hauls, underlining his dominance with both bat and ball.
Litton Das, meanwhile, recently added another century against Ireland in the ongoing match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka to stand with the greats in this tally, as he also has 19 half-centuries to his name in this format.
4) Mohammad Ashraful - 6 centuries
Mohammad Ashraful, though an inconsistent batter for Bangladesh, had some highlight moments in his career that led to his sixth-century tally for the country. Notably, he became the youngest Test centurion in 2001 and scored an unbeaten 158 against India in 2004.
Ashraful was also a decorated ODI batter before he let down the country with his admitted involvement in match-fixing and spot-fixing in the Bangladesh Premier League. Currently 41 years old, Ashraful played 61 Test matches, bagging 2,737 runs at an average of 24. He also had eight half-centuries in the format as he struck at 46.07.
3) Najmul Hossain Shanto - 8 centuries
Najmul Hossain Shanto, the star Bangladesh batter, ranks third in the century tally with his eight centuries for the country. Notably, Shanto, since his debut back in 2017, has been a consistent riser in performance.
The 27-year-old first came to attention after a double century he made in a school one-day match, which led to his place in the Bangladesh Under-17s, and soon within a few years, he was Bangladesh's top run-getter with 259 runs at 64.75. Shanto has 38 Test caps under his name where he piled up 2,289 runs at an average of 33.17. He faced 4,272 balls in the process while having five half-centuries to his name and striking at 53.58.
2) Tamim Iqbal - 10 centuries
Tamim Iqbal, a vital component of Bangladesh's top order back in the 2010s, played 70 Test matches for his country, where he piled up 10 Test hundreds and also had 31 half-centuries to his name. From his 134 innings, Tamim piled up 5,134 runs at an average of 38.89.
The left-hander, who was one of the hardest hitters of the ball in the country, had a particular liking for the offside with his trademark shot being the straight drive. He had a long career span and only announced an end to his international cricket career for the second time in January 2025 with an emotional press conference.
1) Momimul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim - 13 centuries
Mushfiqur Rahim and Momimul Haque leads the tally with 13 centuries for their country. Momimul Haque has ended his days after debuting in 2013 and playing 74 Test matches for the country. He accounted for 13 Test centuries for Bangladesh from 74 matches as he gathered 4,709 runs at an average of 37.07. He also had 23 half-centuries to his name.
Speaking of Mushfiqur, the veteran is currently playing the Bangladesh vs Ireland second Test where he etched a ton to join the tally with Mominul. Notably, Rahim has 27 half-centuries in the format as he played 100 Test matches to also be the first Bangladeshi cricketer to do that.
