There is only one day left for the exciting Ashes to begin between Australia and England on November 21, and the heat is at its peak as Cricket Australia revealed the playing XI of Australia for the Perth test.
Just a day after England released their 12-man squad for the first Test, Australia announce that they are going to field two debutants, Jake Weatherald and Brendan Doggett, alongside, what can be called a conventional setup.
Debutants earn caps, Travis Head at 5
The confirmed playing XI suggested Jake Weatherald as the opener alongside Usman Khawaja. While Khawaja's credentials are never to be questioned,
Weatherald, the debutant, can be of significant value to the foundation given his gritty yet aggressive approach at the top, which sits well with Khawaja's slow and steady style.
Marnus Labuschagne also earned the No. 3 spot after proving his merit in the Sheffield Shield recently. Captain Steve Smith will be continuing at No. 4, a position where he averages 60.05 in Tests.
Cameron Green has also been named in the Playing XI, with the batting all-rounder finding his place in the XI after a long battle with injury and his strong comeback in Shield with the ball as well.
Travis Head will be playing at No. 5, where he played 73 Test innings at an average of 41.76, after whom Green is to follow.
2 spinner, 3 pacer attack for 1st Test
The bowling attack will be headed by Mitchell Starc, Scott Boland, and Nathan Lyon, with Brendan Doggett being the new face who will be earning his maiden cap in Tests to add to the pace arsenal.
Overall, the bowling attack will see Marnus Labuschagne and Nathan Lyon churn the spin while MBB (Mitchell, Boland, and Brendan) heads the pace, with Cameron Green also chipping in with some overs, especially after his feisty bowling display in the Shield.
