The year 2024 was largely hyped up by the T20 World Cup. However, the ODI format also witnessed some fair amount of action. Many batters delivered some breathtaking performances, etching personal best milestones. 

From breathtaking double centuries to match-winning knocks, players across the globe elevated the excitement of the format. Moreover, some notable innings reflect the growing depth and competitiveness in international cricket, making 2024 a memorable year for batting brilliance. 

That being said, as the 2024 year comes to an end, here's a quick look at the highest individual scores recorded for the calendar year in the ODI format.

In February 2024, Azmatullah Omarzai of Afghanistan smashed a blazing hundred against Sri Lanka in the first ODI of the bilateral series at Pallekele Stadium. Afghanistan had a top-order collapse in a 382-run chase. However, for the sixth wicket, Omarzai and Mohammad Nabi stitched a 242-run partnership, scoring a hundred each. 

Omarzai went unbeaten on 149 off 197 balls, but due to a lack of support from the other end, Afghanistan lost the game by 42 runs. Nonetheless, Omarzai's fighting effort, featuring 13 fours and 6 sixes at a strike rate of 129.56, was a stunning counterattack that kept his team in the game.

In an ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 contest between the USA and Scotland, Bradon McMullen stole the limelight with a stunning century. Scotland was batting first, and opener Charlie Tear set up the stage for the middle order with a gritty half-century. 

McMullen capitalised on the momentum to hit a century and finished with 151 off 140 balls. His innings included 11 boundaries and 6 sixes at a strike rate of 107.85. Owing to Brandon McMullen's masterclass, Scotland piled up 317 runs on board in the first inning, while the USA fell short of 71 runs in the chase.

Australia's explosive opener, Travis Head, dominated England in the 1st ODI held at Nottingham on September 19, 2024. Chasing a 315-run total, Travis Head single-handedly kept Australia in the hunt with an impressive century.  He had a 50+ run partnership with Steve Smith before Cameron Green joined him to add 77 runs. 

However, a match-winning 148-run partnership came between Head and Marnus Labuschagne. Head showcases his masterclass with 154* off 129 balls, including 20 boundaries and 5 towering sixes at a strike rate of 119.37. The blazing ton helped Australia clinch a dominant seven-wicket victory.

In another ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 contest, USA's Milind Kumar produced a brilliant century against UAE. The USA batted first, and Milind stitched a 191-run partnership with Saiteja. Milink Kumar was phenomenal as he stayed unbeaten on 155 off 110 balls. His innings was laced with 16 fours and 5 sixes at a strike rate of 140.90. 

This match showcased Milind's ability to anchor and accelerate, underscoring the growth of associate nations in global cricket. Additionally, for USA, he helped clinch a 136 run win from this incredible batting performance.

In the first ODI against Afghanistan, Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka scored his career's best inning of 210* off 139 balls in what turned out to be run riot. Batting first, Nissanka and Avishka Fernando added 182 runs to the opening stand. Nissanka held on to his end to heap a mountain of runs at a quick pace. 

His double ton came in just 139 balls, including 20 fours and 8 sixes at a staggering strike rate of 151.07. The knock is also the highest individual score in ODIs in 2024 and one of the best to have been seen in the format. Besides that, Sri Lanka defended 381 for the first ODI victory by 42 runs.
