When Quinton de Kock is in full flow, few bowling attacks in the world can stop him, and Pakistan found that out the hard way. In the 2nd ODI held at Faisalabad, the South African wicketkeeper-batter smashed an unbeaten 123-run masterpiece.

With that knock, de Kock has entered an elite list of South African players who previously dominated Pakistan in the 50-over format.

On that note, here’s a look at the 5 Protea batters with the highest individual scores against Pakistan in ODIs and how they built their legacy in this exciting rivalry.

4. Hashim Amla - 122

Hashim Amla was elegance personified. Against Pakistan, he was a picture of consistency, accumulating 1047 runs from 25 innings between 2010 and 2019. In 2013, he hammered 122 off 113 balls in the 3rd ODI held at Johannesburg.

His knock helped the Proteas post 343 runs on the board and seal a 34-run victory as well. Overall, Amla scored three centuries and five fifties vs Pakistan, maintaining an average of 45.52 and a strike rate close to 91.

Among the modern generation, Rassie van der Dussen has been the most consistent South African against Pakistan. Since his debut in 2019, he has scored 547 runs in just 12 matches at a stunning average of 68.37.

Back in 2021, Dussen hammered 123* off 134 balls against Pakistan in the 1st ODI held at Centurion. Though South Africa lost the game by 3 wickets, Rassie van der Dussen stood out as a promising prospect.

Fresh out of retirement, the torchbearer of modern South African batting, Quinton de Kock, made his mark in Faisalabad. In the 2nd ODI against Pakistan, he hammered 123* off 119 balls to chase down a 270-run total.

His knock helped his team level the 3-game series and avoid a defeat. Not only that, since 2013, he has played 18 matches, scoring 776 runs at an average of 45.64. With a strike rate of over 90, his counterattacking approach has often left Pakistan struggling for answers.

2. Daryll Cullinan - 124

Before the era of Amla and de Villiers, there was Daryll Cullinan, South Africa’s stylish right-hander from the 1990s. Between 1993 and 2000, he scored 698 runs in 23 matches against Pakistan.

In the second match of the KCA Centenary Tournament against Pakistan held in Nairobi in 1996, Cullinan scored 124 off 117 balls to propel South Africa to a 321-run total and set the foundation for a 62-run victory. Facing the likes of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Saqlain Mushtaq was no easy task, but Cullinan stood as one of South Africa’s finest ODI batsmen of that era.

When it comes to batting brilliance, few can match AB de Villiers. Between 2006 and 2017, he tormented Pakistan’s bowling attack with his fearless stroke play and 360-degree shot-making. In the same game in which Hashim Amla made 122, de Villiers was equally good, with 128 off 108 balls.

Amla and AB had a 238-run partnership. Overall, in 32 matches against Pakistan, AB de Villiers scored 1423 runs at an impressive average of 59.29, including three centuries and ten fifties. His strike rate of over 91 shows just how destructive he was, even against Pakistan’s world-class fast bowlers.
