Smriti Mandhana has bounced back to form in the ongoing India Women vs Australia Women World Cup match. As India came to bat first in the 13th ODI, Mandhana was in scintillating touch after a poor run earlier in the tournament. She scored a brilliant 80 off 66 balls, becoming the fastest batter to reach 5,000 runs in women’s ODIs.

This elite list also includes legendary names from New Zealand, England, and the West Indies. Let’s take a look at how Smriti Mandhana has topped the chart alongside other elite batters who have achieved this milestone.

5) Charlotte Edwards (156 innings)

Charlotte Edwards has played 191 ODI matches and scored 5,992 runs. She was a key top-order batter for England for many years and became one of the most influential figures in women’s cricket. During her international career, she captained the England team for 10 years.

Edwards reached 5,000 ODI runs in just 156 innings. Her last international appearance came during England’s semi-final exit against Australia at the World T20 in India in 2015. Although she played in all three formats, most of her experience came from the 50-over format.

4) Mithali Raj (144 innings)

Mithali Raj is an India Women cricket legend and one of the pioneers who brought women’s cricket into the limelight. The 42-year-old top-order batter reached 5,000 ODI runs in just 144 innings. Her overall record in the format is remarkable. 7,805 runs from 232 matches at an astonishing average of 50.68.

She also registered 64 half-centuries and 7 centuries. Often regarded as India’s greatest female batter, Mithali led India to two 50-over World Cup finals, although she narrowly missed out on lifting the trophy.

3) Suzie Bates (136 innings)

Next on the list is New Zealand veteran Suzie Bates, 38, who reached 5,000 ODI runs in just 136 innings. Bates is a batting all-rounder known for her top-order dominance. Since making her international debut in 2006, she has been a powerful force for New Zealand.

One of her most memorable innings was an unbeaten 94 off 61 balls against Pakistan in the 2014 World Twenty20. Although she has never played Test cricket, Bates has featured in 174 women’s ODIs, amassing 5,925 runs at an average of 39.23, including 13 centuries and 37 half-centuries.

2) Stafanie Taylor (129 innings)

Stafanie Taylor, the West Indies all-rounder, reached her 5,000 ODI runs in just 129 innings, thanks to her powerful and fluent stroke play. Taylor, for the unaware, became the youngest woman, at just 19 years old, to reach 1,000 ODI runs, marking her early dominance in the format.

The 34-year-old later took over as West Indies Women’s captain in 2015 and led the team to glory with the 2016 Women’s World T20 title. So far, Stafanie has played 170 Women’s ODI matches, amassing 5,873 runs at an average of 42.25. Though her strike rate stands at 68.54, her determination is evident through her 7 centuries and 41 half-centuries.

1) Smriti Mandhana (112 innings)

Smriti Mandhana, the current India Women’s cricket great, reached her 5,000 ODI runs milestone during the ongoing India Women vs Australia Women clash, where she scored an impressive 80 runs off just 66 balls at a strike rate of 121.21.
