England, a powerhouse in T20 internationals, boast a formidable legacy built on fearless batting and tactical innovation. With two T20 World Cup titles under their belt, the ‘Three Lions’ have consistently set the benchmark in the shortest format of the game. Over the years, a host of English batters have stamped their authority on global stages with audacious stroke-play and blistering half-centuries that have turned matches in a matter of overs.

Celebrating England cricket, here is a look at five English batters with the fastest half-centuries to their names in T20Is.

5. Ben Duckett 20 balls vs West Indies, Southampton, 2025

Ben Duckett slapped a 20-ball half-century against West Indies in the third ODI of England’s three-match home series in June 2025 in Southampton. The blistering left-handed opener raced to the landmark figure off the last ball of the powerplay to blitz England to 83-0 from six overs alongside Jamie Smith.

Having belted eight fours and two huge sixes by the time of completing his fifty, Duckett eased off slightly thereafter, adding just two boundaries before falling for a scintillating 84 off 46 deliveries. Nonetheless, Duckett’s explosive knock paved way for England’s highest T20I total at home, that of 248-3 to beat West Indies by 37 runs.

4. Liam Livingstone 20 balls vs West Indies, Tarouba, 2023

England’s middle-order belligerent Liam Livingstone muscled a 20-ball half-century against West Indies in the fourth T20I of the five-match series in the Caribbean back in December 2023. The lanky right-hander smeared four fours and four huge sixes in his fiery knock of 54* from 21 balls to catapult England to 267-3 from 20 overs.

However, Livingstone’s match-defining knock was largely overshadowed by opening batter Phil Salt’s power-packed 119 runs from 57 balls with 10 maximums at the top of the order.

3. Phil Salt 19 balls vs Pakistan, Lahore, 2022

England opener and wicketkeeper-batter Phil Salt rained down 13 fours and three huge sixes over Pakistan bowlers during his match-winning 88* from 41 balls in match six of the seven-T20I series in Lahore in September 2022. Salt’s top-order blitz helped England make lightwork of Pakistan’s 169-run total, as they chased down their target with more than five overs to spare to level the series 3-3 with a match to spare.

Salt raced to his half-century from just 19 balls, and shared 50-plus partnerships with Alex Hales and Dawid Malan to set up England’s comfortable win.

2. Liam Livingstone 17 balls vs Pakistan, Nottingham, 2021

Liam Livingstone bludgeoned an electric 17-ball half-century during England’s tall chase of 233 runs against Pakistan in the series-opening first T20I match at Trent Bridge back in July 2021. Batting at five and arriving to the crease inside the powerplay at a precarious 48-3, Livingstone thwarted the likes of Shaheen Afridi and Shadab Khan to force England back into the hunt.

The lanky middle-order batter also converted his record half-century into his maiden and only T20I ton so far, mounting 103 runs from 43 balls with six fours and nine huge sixes. However, with lack of assistance from others, England fell to a 31-run defeat to concede an early lead in the series.

1. Moeen Ali 16 balls vs South Africa, Bristol, 2022

England all-rounder Moeen Ali tonked the fourth-joint fastest half-century among Test playing nations, doing so from just 16 balls, back in July 2022 with his explosive burst against South Africa in Bristol. Moeen’s hot-headed knock also marked England’s fastest-ever fifty in T20I history, as he went on to make 52 runs from 18 balls in the game with two fours and six huge sixes against the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi and Keshav Maharaj.

To top it off, the seasoned campaigner also picked up a wicket later in the game as his all-round brilliance scripted England’s comfortable 41-run win to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
