The Ireland cricket team can turn its one-off successes into notable series wins, believes assistant coach Gary Wilson. Ahead of Ireland’s three-match home T20I series against West Indies, Wilson cited his team’s past record in the format, and sought confidence from the recently-concluded ODI rubber at Dublin’s Castle Avenue last month.
It is worth noting that the Irish team managed to draw its three-match ODI series in May by winning the first ODI, before rains washed away the entirety of the second half of the second match. West Indies bounced back in the third to level the series 1-1.
Ireland Coach Backs Team To Convert Big-Stage Impact
Ireland assistant coach Gary Wilson is confident of his team’s prospects in the upcoming T20I series against West Indies at the Bready Cricket Club in Bready. Wilson also added that the Irish team has enjoyed a decent T20I record against West Indies in the past few years, and backed the Bready crowd and conditions to assist the hosts in the impending challenge.
Wilson further believes that Ireland can now convert their one-off successes into notable series wins. As quoted by BBC.COM, the Ireland coach said:
“We have had a decent record against the West Indies over the past number of years and it's a great place to play cricket here. The locals really get behind it. It's a hotbed of Irish cricket. Obviously, we know how good they are in this form of cricket - it's definitely the format they feel most comfortable in but we're looking forward to the challenge and hopefully the weather plays ball.”
“We've shown a big ability to get big results, especially on the global stage over the last number of years, now we're looking to put that into series wins rather than one-off games.”
Compatible to Gary Wilson’s claims, Ireland has defeated West Indies twice in their last four result-oriented T20I matches, which included a huge nine-wicket triumph in the Group B match of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Hobart.
The three T20I matches between Ireland and West Indies will be played on June 12, June 14 and June 15.
